This piece is composed of acrylic paint, UV reactive paint, floetrol, artist’s breastmilk, isopropyl alcohol and gloss varnish.
The creative process is a flurry of emotions. There’s so much excitement, fear, confidence, self doubt, inspiration, despair and pride…the myriad of ups and downs that come with stepping out of your comfort zone hit you full force every step of the way. So many times I can get lost and too close to the work to know if it’s any good, or if I even like it. Usually in the middle of creating whatever I’m creating there’s a period of revulsion and doubt… then I’ll take a breath, step back, get my energy straight and keep going. This work isn’t even for me or about me solely. I know it’s meant for others, to awaken a lost bit of themselves that needs to be found.

Denial

Formed before
We had a filter
To know what is real

Intangible relationship
Consciousnesses
With that which cannot be
Comfortably named

For fear of offending or challenging

Or being called crazy
Or dying outright
For practicing
Your beliefs
Craft
Rituals
Life
A country founded
On religious freedom
Yet we persecute
Every type
Judge and fight
Mass murders
Day and night
We are all immigrants
Save the Natives
Mistreated
Separated
Controlled
Persecuted
Targeted
Contained
Sold a bill of lies
Separating us
From our true power
Drowned in the all data
The hype, memes, tweets
Curated misconstrued history
Built to stir it up
The contending dissonance
The irreverent and fraudulent communication
Guiding our impulses
Towards lack, fear and fighting
No more
No matter your beliefs
One for sure that is real
And with which we need do deal
Our planet is dying
Raped for resources
Polluted and trashed
More fires
Hurricanes
Floods
Droughts
Earthquakes
Tornados
Diseases
If we come together
Hold space to speak
Collaborative action
Is needed to heal
Our perfectly positioned
3rd planet
Our home
We have the technology
We have the knowledge
We have the people
We have the power
That can make it happen
We must come together
We can learn
From each other
Craft our path together
Make compromises
To benefit many
Not just a few
To build a planet
Where the inhabitants
Are all very different
But that is what creates balance
On all levels
When we focus on what’s shared
How we find common ground
And desire for good

Instead of what you produce
And sell and trade for the highest possible
Profit at the cost of the well being of other humans, creatures and our planet
Products whose gross margin inflates
When every year you continue to grow
A sick addicted numb customer base
With so many interactions and symptoms they’d rather
Be a zombie in groundhogs day
Every day the same or worse
A spiral of dis-ease
And more pain
Acceptance
Gratitude
Being present
Being in the flow
The vortex
The vibe
The state of bliss
Where joy is found
Is through creating
New thoughts
New patterns
New structures
New paintings
New songs
New things
New solutions
When we listen
We speak openly
We show love
Give energy
Create space
