Mnemosyne

This piece is composed of acrylic paint, floetrol, artist’s breastmilk, isopropyl alcohol and gloss varnish.

Greek Goddess of time, memory, language, and the mother of the 9 muses. I taught for the Fullerton school district Art for All program in 2019 and was looking for inspiration to blend art and science for my classes. I’ve always loved mythology and the history of this particular goddess. One of the classes I taught I had the kids utilize air dry clay to form a Mnemonic device to represent a dream they had for their future so that each day they saw it, it would remind them of their dream, remind them to believe in its possibility and their ability to achieve it. Getting to share this technique with these brilliant 3rd grade kids and see their eyes light up with joy as they envisioned their dream is something I will cherish the rest of my life.
